Our Story
We are parents of a daughter with special needs. For years, we’ve navigated IEP meetings, therapies, and long waiting lists for state services. It took us more than ten years to finally get into a waiver program, and throughout this journey, we learned just how difficult, confusing, and exhausting the process can be.
We are also caregivers in other important ways:
- Supporting a spouse through terminal illness.
- Caring for an elderly parent.
- Walking alongside a young adult with mental illness.
Each of these roles has taught us something unique about the complexity of caregiving. The systems we interact with—medical, educational, legal, financial—differ greatly, yet the struggles feel strikingly similar: fatigue, isolation, endless paperwork, and the constant question of “What do I do next?”
What We’ve Learned
We’ll be the first to admit: we’ve made mistakes. Sometimes we didn’t know what questions to ask. Other times, we found ourselves stuck between conflicting advice from professionals, agencies, and well-meaning friends. We’ve felt overwhelmed, isolated, and wished there was a place where all the pieces of caregiving came together.
Over time, though, we grew as parents, partners, and advocates. We discovered invaluable Central Texas resources, connected with other families, and slowly pieced together solutions. One thing became clear: no one should have to navigate caregiving alone.
Why We Started WeCareTX
WeCareTX was born out of those struggles—and from the belief that caregiving should never feel like navigating a maze alone.
This isn’t about us having all the answers; we don’t. What we do have is lived experience, perspective, and a commitment to building something practical and community-driven.
WeCareTX is designed to:
- Share what we wish we had known sooner.
- Point families to trusted resources.
- Build a caregiver community where support is abundant, not isolated.
We’re starting with the special needs community here in Central Texas, because that’s where our own journey began. However, our vision extends beyond that: to create a hub that supports caregivers across all seasons—from raising a child with a disability to managing chronic illness and caring for aging parents.
An Invitation
WeCareTX isn’t just our story; it’s a platform for your story too. We believe that when caregivers come together, we can lighten each other’s load, share hard-earned wisdom, and find hope in knowing we’re not alone.
We’re building this one step at a time, and we’d love for you to join us. Sign up for early access, share your ideas, and let’s create something meaningful together.
Because caregiving is hard. But together, we can make it a little easier.
